Halloween in the Park 2012

8th November 2012

The Iluka Home Owners Association conducted the 3rd annual Halloween event in Sir James McCusker Park on the 31st October. We had a terrific turnout and we are sure that those who attended would agree that the event was a success with the children dressing up in some wonderful costumes.

The intention behind the Halloween event is to provide local children with a safe and welcoming alternative to the practice of "trick or treating" which many residents find uncomfortable and has led to some confrontations in the past. This way the children can enjoy themselves, get dressed up, get a treat and have some fun.

This year we were joined by our local MLA Albert Jacob, member for Ocean Reef, who provided the children (and parents) with some interesting background as to the Halloween tradition, which contrary to common belief actually originates in Ireland almost 1,000 years ago.

We were also joined by two clowns Wozzo and Bloopo who kept the children entertained with balloon shapes and magic tricks.

On a more serious note, the IHOA supports the McCusker Alzheimer's Research Foundation and this year, thanks to the generosity of those who attended, we raised a total of $494 to assist the foundation in it's important research. Sincere thanks to all who donated.
